Commenting on the announcement that the Government has approved plans for Heathrow expansion, Susan Kramer, MP for Richmond Park and North Kingston said:
"These plans are a devastating blow to our hopes of tackling climate change.
"The Government is clutching at scrappy promises for emissions controls and greener flights as a sweetener. And the plans for high speed rail are tentative at best."
On runway alternation:
"The one blessing in the announcement is that residents in south west London will not have to suffer flights all day every day through mixed mode."
"The safeguarding of runway alternation is a victory for local people. Our lives would really have become unliveable if we had been forced to suffer flight noise all day every day."
"It is a credit to the thousands of people, including the schoolchildren affected by flight noise at school, who pushed home the message that the axe alternation would be unacceptable."
