Davey Gets Down with the Kids2.13.37pm GMT Tue 31st Oct 2006
Edward Davey, Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton, met last week with young people to discuss national and local issues as part of the Urban Nights scheme run by Kingston's Oxygen - a Christian youth project. Every Thursday evening young people in New Malden, who would normally have no other place to go, can go to Christchurch Parish rooms to chat about their week. Edward Davey, Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton was invited by the young people themselves to come and have a chat about the issues and how they feel they are viewed by society. Edward Davey said, "I was impressed by how interested and informed these young people were. They'd prepared a poster full of questions - covering everything from the NHS to the cost of local trains. "It was a bit different from doing Question Time or Any Questions though. For a start some of the youngsters wanted to know some quite personal things - no problem, and quite understandable, but I doubt David Dimbleby would have selected those particular topics! "The Urban Nights project is a great way of encouraging young people - and making sure young people are listened to and have a voice."
