Royal Mail and Government to Slash the Number of Post Offices in Carshalton and Wallington - Brake
10.19.19am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 23rd Aug 2007
Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington has received a copy of a letter that has been circulated to Post Offices in Carshalton and Wallington which announces that more one in six of the local Post Offices could be closed under the Royal Mail's Network Change Programme.
Tom Brake said, "Just a couple of years ago, the Royal Mail closed Post Offices left, right and centre - in Westmead Road, Banstead Road, Stafford Road and Stanley Park Road to name but a few. They closed one in four locally since 2003. Now they are back for more. Neither the Royal Mail nor the Government recognise that Post Offices are unique. They provide crucial services to some of the most vulnerable in society who often do not have access to a car, as well as businesses and of course anyone who buys the odd stamp."
People concerned about post office closures should visit Tom Brake's website tombrake.co.uk to sign his petition.
