MP SUPPORTS PLASTIC BAG-FREE CALL FOR RICHMOND PARK AND NORTH KINGSTON

11.28.10am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 15th Sep 2009

Susan Kramer, MP for Richmond Park and North Kingston joined campaigners in supporting a bid to cut down the use of plastic bags.

The MP joined Greener-upon-Thames campaigners to launch their pledge to cut plastic bag use on Richmond Green, and then attended the 'Towards a Plastic-Bag-Free Kingston' launch in Kingston.

Susan Kramer MP commented:

"It was really encouraging to see so many people pledging to reduce their use of plastic bags, and for so many shops and traders to sign up to the campaign.

"On average, we use a plastic bag for only 12 minutes before throwing it away. This plastic rubbish lasts for centuries, harming the environment and killing wildlife.

"I've pledged to use my 'Bag for Life' whenever possible, and to refuse plastic bags when offered them.

"Just a few simple steps like these make a huge difference to protecting our environment. Please do sign up to do your bit for the planet."
